Transfer Day

Dear Family:

We have had a whirlwind week! We purchased 4 bicycles for 2 sets of elders and delivered 2 of those bicycles to King William's Town about 40 miles up the road. We fininshed purchasing and moving furnishings into a new mission flat for 2 additional elders who will be assigned to MD Zone June 10. On Thursday we inspected 14 apartments and 10 cars. It took from 8am until 2:30 in the afternoon, non-stop. We thought it was important to impress upon the elders to take personal responsibility for their apartments when there won't be a senior couple "watching over them". So we committed them to "leave your apartment as clean as you would want to move into after transfers". We have been packing and re-packing trying to get our luggage down to the weight affowed by the airlines. It will most likely cost an additional $120 to get our stuff to Namibia. On our flight from Utah we were allowed 2 bags each plus a carry-on, but now we have been cut back to 1 bag each plus a carry-on so we will just have to end up paying for the extra weight.

Saturday afternoon the MD 1st Ward held a farewell party for us, and today in Fast and Testimony Meeting, a number of people expressed personal thanks to us for our efforts here. It's hard to believe the bond of love which has developed between us and the members in just less than 5 months. We feel blessed to have been able to complete the Institute course and the temple preparation class. They both were very well attended and successful. All in all, we have had a wonderful experience and will remember South Africa with much love.

Neither one of us has had a single day of sickness since we left home, which we are very grateful for.

Tomorrow we fly to Namibia and will email you as soon as we can. Thanks very much for your emails this week. It was good to hear from you.
